How to Prolong The battery Life of Your Device

Leaving your laptop always plugged in will kill its battery life faster, according to a recent report from Wired. In fact, you shouldn't even let it charge to 100%.

Cadex Electronics CEO Isidor Buchmann tells the site that ideally users would charge their laptops to 80% and then drain them to 40%, prolonging their battery life by up to 4x.

The reason is that each cell in a lithium-polymer battery is charged to a voltage level. The higher the charge percentage, the higher the voltage level. The more voltage a cell has to store, the more stress it’s put under. That stress leads to fewer discharge cycles. For example, Battery University states that a battery charged to 100 percent will have only 300-500 discharge cycles, while a battery charged to 70 percent will get 1,200-2,000 discharge cycles.

This is simple in theory but much harder in practice. The report suggests timing how long it takes your device to charge from 40% to 80% and then setting a timer when you first plug your laptop in to charge.

If you can remember to follow Buchmann's advice, a four times increase in battery life is a significant improvement.

Blackberry Losses 1Billion Dollars in 3months, Blames it on Failed Z10

BlackBerry has just reported a $935 million hit in Q2 due entirely to what it's calling a "Z10 Inventory Charge" -- in other words, a loss associated with creating a stock offlagship handsets that subsequently failed to sell. Echoing Microsoft's catastrophic write-down due to unsold Surface RT inventory, this single loss was enough to wipe out much of the company's quarterly revenue of $1.6 billion. When added to a further loss due to corporate restructuring, it resulted in a final GAAP loss for BlackBerry of $965 million. It's hard to gauge exactly how many of the newer BB 10 handsets (namely the Z10 and Q10) sold during the quarter, but BlackBerry admits that "most" of the 3.7 million units that reached end users were older BlackBerry 7 devices, so the figures can't be pretty. For his part, Thorsten Heins says he's "very disappointed" with the results, but he claims the company saw growth in enterprise server (BES 10) customers and he insists there's still a future in that side of the business -- a future that could soon belong to someone else.

Quick Look Apple's Haswell-based iMacs, finds room for extra storage

As is its custom, iFixit has torn down the new Haswell-based iMacs to gauge their repairability -- and the company has found a few surprises despite the iterative design. In addition to new processors, graphics and WiFi, the updated all-in-ones now have unoccupied PCI Express slots in their base configurations. DIY enthusiasts willing to pry open their systems can add PCIe-based SSD if they like, iFixit says. Not every change is good news, however. The 21.5-inch iMac's processor is now soldered to the motherboard; while earlier models weren't all that upgradable, the move prevents even determined hobbyists from using their own CPUs. Whether or not you plan to tinker with Apple's desktops, you'll find quite a lot to explore at the source links

An Update on BBM for iPhone and Android, Likely Won't Relaunch This Week

Andrew Bocking, head of BBM at BlackBerry, offers an update on the delay in releasing BBM for iPhone and Android.

---
Last week, an unreleased, older version of the BBM for Android app was posted on numerous file sharing sites. We were aware of an issue with this unreleased version of the BBM for Android app. This older version resulted in volumes of data traffic orders of magnitude higher than normal for each active user and impacted the system in abnormal ways. The version we were planning to release on Saturday addressed these issues, however we could not block users of the unreleased version if we went ahead with the launch.

We attempted to address the problems caused by the unreleased version throughout the day on Saturday, but as active users of the unreleased app neared a million – and accelerated – it became clear that the only way to address the issue was to pause the rollout for both Android and iPhone.

The team is now focused on adjusting the system to completely block this unreleased version of the Android app when we go live with the official BBM for Android app. We are also making sure that the system is reinforced to handle this kind of scenario in the future. While this may sound like a simple task – it’s not. This will take some time and I do not anticipate launching this week.

BlackBerry’s co-founder rumored to consider a bid for the company

In lieu of the disastrous preliminary fiscal Q2 2014 results, a word got out about a surprising new potential option for the future of BlackBerry. According to The Wall Street Journal, Mike Lazaridis, the co-founder and former co-CEO of the struggling Canadian manufacturer is considering a bid to save his former company and take it private.
It is already a known fact that BlackBerry is looking for a buyer. Reportedly, Mr. Lazaridis has separately approached the private equity giants Blackstone Group and Carlyle Group about potentially making an offer for the company. However, talks on the subject have been preliminary, so nothing is certain.
A co-founder of BlackBerry in 1985, Mike Lazaridis is one of the company’s largest individual shareholders. His significant stake in the company will certainly matter in the bidding process.
Of course, it must also be noted that Mike Lazaridis, in a tandem with Jim Balsillie ran BlackBerry during the period when the company’s business took a bad turn. Mr. Lazaridis is viewed by many as a key factor for the current state of BlackBerry. Him and Jim Balsillie were replaced by the company’s current chief, Thorsten Heins in January 2012.

Apple sells 9million new iPhones(5S/5C) in 3days

Apple just set a new all-time record for iPhone launch sales: it reports selling nine million total iPhone 5s and 5c units this weekend, well over the 5 million of theiPhone 5 launch last year. While the company isn't breaking down sales by individual models, it notes that the initial iPhone 5s supply has already sold out. The company also mentioned that more than 200 million devices are already running iOS 7. That's the fastest software upgrade in history, according to Apple. While it's difficult to put the sales and download figures into context without directly comparable numbers from rivals, it's clear that the new devices are off to a strong start.

ANDROID AND IOS USER'S GET IMPATIENT AS BBM HAS BEEN PAUSED

its not news anymore that BBM its coming on the android platform, but android and ios user's are getting impatient waiting for its lunch due to the fact that its was lunched on the ios platform,
while large amount of user fall victims to the fake and leaked version of BBM on Google playstore, having to download file that didn't work
We hope you weren't scheduling your weekend around the launch of BBM for Android and iOS, as BlackBerry has paused the rollout following a leak of the Android version. There were too many simultaneous users, the company says; with over 1.1 million active clients in the first eight hours, the messaging service just wasn't ready to handle the load. There's no mention of when the BBM deployment will continue, although BlackBerry is disabling the unofficial Android build to prevent future problems. Unless you grabbed BBM's iOS version in the first several hours, you'll just have to be patient.

GTA V makes $1 billion in three days, may be fastest selling entertainment product in history

Calling Grand Theft Auto V one of 2013's most anticipated video game releases would be a massive understatement, but if you wanted some sort of monetary proof of the claim, Take-Two interactive has it. According to a press release issued today, GTA V has cleared over $1 billion in sales in its first three days on the market; crunch the numbers, and that adds up to more than 16.5 million units sold. Take-Two says that it believes this makes it the fastest selling entertainment property in history -- the last major release to make that claim, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, took 15 days to reach the milestone. It's an impressive accomplishment, but it's potentially only the tip of the iceberg: GTA V is rumored to be ported to PC and next generation consoles, and has a literal product lifetime to hold down its sales record.

Great News for Iphone, Ipad and Ipod touch users, you can now send and recieve file via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi

Apple has introduced AirDrop in iOS 7, a new way to share files with other iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch owners nearby.

Sending a photo or a document to someone via text or email is fine. But if that someone is right next to you, a text or an email suddenly feels like too many steps. Enter AirDrop for iOS. It lets you quickly and easily share photos, videos, contacts — and anything else from any app with a Share button. Just tap Share, then select the person you want to share with. AirDrop does the rest using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. No setup required. And transfers are encrypted, so what you share is highly secure.

Enable AirDrop:
To enable AirDrop swipe up from the bottom of the display to access Control Center. Tap the AirDrop button then choose to make device visible to Everyone or just your Contacts.

Share a File:
Tap the Share button in any application that supports AirDrop. Along the top of the share sheet you will see the file you selected. You can swipe left or right to select additional files for sharing. Below the file selector you will see a row of circular icons representing other users nearby. Tap an icon to send your selected files to that user.

Accept a File:
If you are sent a file from another user, an alert will popup on your display asking you to accept or decline the transfer. Tap accept to approve the transfer. Once it's complete, the file will be opened in its appropriate application.

Apple Vs. Samsung patent partial retrial set for November

A US judge ordered a new trial for November to review a portion of the damages tossed out in the landmark patent case involving Apple and Samsung.
Judge Lucy Koh set the case for November 19, according to the northern California district court docket.

The new trial became necessary after the judge cut some $450 million from a damage award of more than $1 billion to be paid by Samsung in a case in which the US firm accused its South Korean rival of copying technology from the iPhone and iPad.

Koh, in her ruling in March, affirmed the remainder of the award, amounting to $598.9 million.
Apple accused its rival of massive and willful copying of its designs and technology for smartphones and tablets, and won the landmark case in a jury decision in August 2012. But the case has been on hold pending multiple appeals.

Florian Mueller, a consultant who follows patent issues, said that Samsung "hopes that the total damages figure will go down (though it can't go below $650 million without an appeal because that's the amount not vacated."
Mueller noted in a blog post that "there is upside for Apple if the new jury awards it a higher percentage of its court-approved damages claims than last time."
But he noted that damages are less important than "injunctive relief," or orders which court bar the sale of some Samsung devices.
The California case is among several pending in courts and administrative agencies around the world between the two electronics giants, each of which accuses the other of infringing on its patents.
After years of following and refining the iPhone's pioneering innovations a strategy that resulted in bitter patent battles with Apple Samsung has dethroned its California-based rival to become the world's top smartphone maker.

Apple maintains it's position as Personal Computer Customer Satisfaction for the Tenth Straight Year

Apple once more tops PC customer satisfaction. The Mac and iPad creator practically owns the top spot, ranking No. 1 in the American Customer Satisfaction for nearly a decade. Since 2004, Apple has scored highest in pre-sale expectations, perceived quality and value, number of complaints and customer loyalty.
The firm scored 87, 1.2 percent higher than 2012 and topping the 79 rating for average PC customer satisfaction. Where were the competitors? In the basement, or lower…
Hewlett-Packard was the only non-Apple PC maker to rank above average in customer satisfaction with a score of 80. As for Dell – which recently took itself private due to floundering sales – the company only equalled the industry standard.
However, the “good” news for non-Apple computer and tablet makers stopped there.
Toshiba and Acer fell below the industry average with “All Others” slipping five percent from the previous year, according to the ratings.
Screen Shot 2013-09-18 at 16.33.48
The ten-year ACS top ranking for Apple follows a nine-year span of winning the JD Power customer satisfaction rating. In March, Apple poked rival Samsung in the eye, with both the iPhone and iPad winning in South Korea in terms of customer satisfaction.
Apple is also known for its customer loyalty, a feature that permits Apple to unveil new products – such as the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c – to eagerly-awaiting crowds. In the long run, customer satisfaction matters because satisfied and happy customers are far more likely to stay in the Apple ecosystem and purchase additional products.

First iOS 7, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s reviews hit the web

Right after its big iPhone event last Tuesday, Apple gave a select group of journalists early access to the final build of iOS 7, along with its two new handsets: the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5s. The move is a familiar one for the company, who typically gives out products for analysis ahead of launch. And tonight, right on schedule, the embargo lifted on this week’s round of reviews…
As usual, we’ve put together a roundup of excerpts from a number of the just-released reviews in an attempt to paint a picture of what the general consensus is towards Apple’s new products.

iOS 7

Since iOS 7 will be making its way to millions of devices tomorrow, we figured we better start here. It’s the biggest update to iOS since its inception, and has thus far received polarizing feedback.

David Pogue for The New York Times:
“The look of iOS 7 may grab you or not. But once the fuss about the visuals dies down, something even more important comes into focus: the work that’s been done on making iOS better. The longer you spend with the new OS, the more you’re grateful for the fixing and de-annoyifying on display.
For example, you no longer have to burrow into infinitely nested Settings screens to adjust your control panels. Now you can just speak what you want, using Siri: “Open Wi-Fi settings,” for example, or “Open brightness settings.”
Walt Mossberg of AllThingsD:
“Then there’s the new operating system on this phone, called iOS 7. Its new look, new user interface and new functions represent the biggest overhaul to the iPhone’s core software since the original model launched in 2007. Nearly everything has been improved, including multi-tasking, notifications, access to common controls, email, Web browsing and Siri. Like any big change, it’s a shock at first, but I have come to like it and consider it a step forward, despite a few issues. “
And Jim Dalrymple of The Loop:
“iOS 7 isn’t a big change functionally from what we’re all used to with iOS 6. Apple kept most of things we know about how to use the operating system and integrated them with the design.
Of course, that is the big change with the new iOS—the look and feel are newer, some would say flatter. While we were all a bit shocked with the look when it was first introduced, it doesn’t take long to adapt. In fact, there are many things I like better.”

iPhone 5c

The iPhone 5c represents a bold new strategy for Apple. It’s plastic, it’s less expensive than the 5s, and it comes in an array of bright colors. Many pundits, though, are skeptical it will succeed.

Edward C. Baig of USA Today:
“f that second new model, the iPhone 5c may have a cheap price, relatively speaking, but there is nothing cheap about the phone. Plastic be damned — the phone feels good in the hand. Apple says it is built around a steel frame that doubles as an antenna. And, yes, the color designs — my test unit is blue — look cool, too, complemented by matching wallpaper.”
Scott Stein for CNET:
“A brightly colored plastic iPhone: it sounds like something new, doesn’t it? Not exactly: Apple’s had brightly colored iPods for years, and the iPod Touch got its multicolored refresh in 2012. The iPhone 5C just feels like the extension of that bright-color philosophy into the iPhone line.
It doesn’t feel like cheap plastic, though; the smooth, shiny polycarbonate shell around the back feels like a candy lacquer coating. It’s a dense device, heavier than the iPhone 5 by nearly an ounce, but it has a comfortable feel — maybe even better than the more hard-angled metal iPhone 5/5S.”
And Myriam Joire of Engadget:
“We’re not going to lie. The iPhone 5c is gorgeous – we’d even argue that it’s the most beautiful iPhone since the 4 and 4s. It instantly makes the iPhone 5 and 5s look staid in comparison.
Sure, we prefer materials like aluminum and glass over plastic, and we appreciate the intricate craftsmanship that goes into building the iPhone 5 and 5s, but still, we can’t help it – the 5c just triggers some reptilian part of our brains that screams, “OMG, color!”

iPhone 5s

The iPhone 5s is exactly what you’d expect from Apple on an s-model year. It looks the same as its predecessor, and has a number of new features and improvements tucked underneath its surface.

David Pogue of The New York Times:
“The most heavily promoted feature is the 5S’s fingerprint sensor, which, ingeniously, is built into the Home button. You push the Home button to wake the phone, leave your finger there another half second, and boom: you’ve unlocked a phone that nobody else can unlock, without the hassle of inputting the password. (And yes, a password is a hassle; half of smartphone users never bother setting one up.)
The best part is that it actually works — every single time, in my tests. It’s nothing like the balky, infuriating fingerprint-reader efforts of earlier cellphones. It’s genuinely awesome; the haters can go jump off a pier.”
Anand Lal Shimpi from AnandTech:
“At the end of the day, if you prefer iOS for your smartphone – the iPhone 5s won’t disappoint. In many ways it’s an evolutionary improvement over the iPhone 5, but in others it is a significant step forward. What Apple’s silicon teams have been doing for these past couple of years has really started to pay off. From a CPU and GPU standpoint, the 5s is probably the most futureproof of any iPhone ever launched. As much as it pains me to use the word futureproof, if you are one of those people who likes to hold onto their device for a while – the 5s is as good a starting point as any.”
And Jim Dalrymple of The Loop:
“Setting up a fingerprint is as easy as resting your finger on the Home button and following the onscreen instructions. The button will vibrate when it’s reading; lift your finger and rest it on the button again; and repeat until it’s done. Very simple.
Speed increases are something we expect with new Apple products, but the iPhone 5s goes above and beyond expectations. In addition to the faster processor, the iPhone 5s is also the world’s first 64-bit phone. These changes make the 5s up to twice as fast as the iPhone 5—that’s a significant increase.”
So there you have it. Overall, reviews have been fairly positive for iOS 7, as well as both the iPhone 5c and 5s. But what is really going to matter is what consumers think of the new software/devices.
The iPhone 5c is available for pre-order now, and will be available in-stores this Friday alongside the iPhone 5s. iOS 7 officially launches tomorrow.

Infinity Blade III launches on the App Store

Infinity Blade has long been a so-called system seller, an iOS masterpiece meant to highlight the power of Apple’s iOS platform by taking the GPU inside your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad to its limits.

Developer Chair said in July that Infinity Blades: Dungeons had been canceled due to internal reshuffling that saw the company focus on the third installment in the series, Infinity Blade III.
Apple during its iPhone 5s/5c keynote last month invited representatives from Chair to demo the game on stage. In a quick follow-up, Chair then posted a trailer video and this morning the game surfaced on the App Store, ahead of the expected iOS 7 release later today…
Billed as “the epic conclusion to the Infinity Blade series,” the game has Siris and Isa joining with the God-King Raidriar in a desperate attempt to destroy the Worker of Secrets and his army of Deathless titans.
Here’s your flat Infinity Blade III app icon.
Powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine technology, Infinity Blade III has stellar graphics that takes full advantage of the iPhone 5s’s twice as fast A7 chip. HDMI output is supported, as are cloud saves and Game Center achievements and leaderboards.
The story scenes feature voiceover by John Noble and Troy Baker and there’s even a short animated film by director Ben Hibon, titled Infinity Blade: Origins. Another goodie: Infinity Blade III debuts an original new song, titled Monster, from the rock band Imagine Dragons.
Key features include:
RESPONSIVE AND INTUITIVE TOUCH CONTROLS

Attack, dodge, block, and cast devastating spells – all with the simple swipe of a finger.

SIMPLE NAVIGATION

Easy to use, tap-to-move controls enable players to effortlessly navigate and explore while searching for collectable items such as treasure, swords, shields, armor and other magical rewards.
DYNAMIC 3D WORLD
Explore larger, beautiful and immersive environments that dynamically change as you choose multiple gameplay paths, new quests, side missions, and ClashMob engagements with the new in-game World Map interface.
TWO PLAYABLE CHARACTERS
Battle all-new enemies as both the legendary hero Siris, and the stealthy female warrior-thief, Isa, each with three unique combat styles and hundreds of fantastic weapons and items.
THE HIDEOUT
Discover and unlock allies to join your cause at your all-new base of operations. Here, you’ll encounter the Gemcutter, Potionmaster, Blacksmith, and Merchant, who will help you unlock incredible new strength and skills.
GLOBAL CLASHMOB CHALLENGES
Three new modes! Team up with players from around the globe for unique “massively social,” group-based challenges to defeat new enemies, unlock rare treasures and earn exclusive items.
NEW ACHIEVEMENTS
All-new Goals feature takes achievements to the next level, allowing players to earn valuable Chips that they can spend on keys, treasure maps, prize wheels, and other rare in-game items.
Here are a few nice screenies.

Check out the opening cinematic for Infinity Blade III which recaps the Infinity Blade storyline, narrated by John Noble. The opening video is created by Ben Hibon.
The game is optimized for the iPhone 5′s taller screen and supports the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices running iOS 6.0 or later. Specifically, Infinity Blade III supports the iPhone 4 or later, iPad 2 or later, iPad mini and fourth-gen iPod touch and up.
The Verge has a review up and they seem to like the game.
As for the Android version, Chair co-founder had this to say:
The challenge has been historically that Android has been a pretty fragmented operating system where it would be very challenging to take a game of the complexity of Infinity Blade and have it work on all the devices. in the last year, most of that has gone away.
I think it’s pretty much there, now, it’s just time. We’ve got lots of things that we’re working on, and we’re just looking for the right opportunity.
The download weighs in at a massive 1.47GB.
We’ll have the full review of this elegiac masterpiece up later in the week. Until then, you really can’t go wrong buying Infinity Blade III, it’s one of the finest mobile games and is exclusive to iOS.
You can download Infinity Blade III from the App Store for $6.99.
