Thief Steals Woman’s iPhone But Forgets to Disable Photo Sharing

A very hot Tumblr blog this week is “Life of a Stranger Who Stole My Phone,” which presents an oblivious national of Dubai, “Hafid” and all his personal photos taken after having stolen the iPhone from a beach in Ibiza, Spain
Hafid forgot to disable her DropBox, which automatically uploaded images to her cloud storage online. He’s still taking pictures and doesn’t realize he’s a viral phenomenon with 12,000 followers yet! The woman unnamed author says this is how it all happened.

Angry Birds Go!’ launches on iOS in New Zealand

Angry Birds Go! is the latest game in the Angry Birds series from Rovio and is the farthest departure from anything that has come before it. Like many franchises before it, including Mario, Sonic and Crash Bandicoot, Rovio turned to the go-kart racing genre for their popular franchise and now we have a go-kart racing game but with birds.

Apple iPad mini 2 production reaches 4 million units this month

The launch of the Apple iPad mini 2 was delayed relative to the iPad Air launch and even with the late start, the smaller tablet still suffers from availability issues. Digitimes quotes sources who claim that the production bottlenecks responsible for the low supply have been cleared, though, and everything should be back to normal soon.

iPhone Thief Sends Owner 11 Pages of Handwritten Contacts

A Chinese thief painstakingly wrote out the information for nearly 1,000 contacts from an iPhone he'd stolen and sent them back to owner of the device, reports the Hindustan Times.

The pickpocket reportedly took the phone from Zou Bin when they shared a taxi somewhere between Yiyang and Changsha in the central province of Hunan.

Since he did not have a backup, Zou was more concerned with losing his contacts than the phone itself.

A week ago, a report surfaced from Israeli news outlet Calcalist claiming that Apple had reached an acquisition deal with the 3D sensor tech company PrimeSense. The purchase wasn’t final, but the outlet seemed pretty confident it was close.
Today, Globes adds it weight to the story with its own report. Thepublication—who has a solid track record of providing accurate intel regarding high-level buyout talks—says the deal was completed Friday and will be announced next week…
Here’s the Globes’ Shmulik Shelach (via The Next Web) with the scoop:

The popular Instagram photo and video app may be getting private messaging features, according to a GigaOm report.

Well-placed sources tell us that the company is gearing up to launch new private messaging features inside its still red-hot photo and video sharing service. It is also experimenting with the idea of group messaging, our source tells us. The new features are likely to find home in the next version of Instagram, which is expected before end of the year. An Instagram spokesperson (not surprisingly) declined to comment.

Samsung Owes Apple $290 Million in Additional Damages

A federal jury has ruled that Samsung owes Apple $290 million in damages for infringing on its patents, reports AllThingsD.

The award concludes a partial retrial of last year’s landmark case between the electronics giants. A jury in that case ruled in Apple’s favor and awarded $1 billion in damages. However, Judge Lucy Koh ruled that more than $400 million of that award was improperly calculated, necessitating the current retrial. Apple had argued it was due a further $379 million, while Samsung maintained it should only owe $52 million for the portion of damages being reconsidered. Barring a successful appeal, Samsung also owes roughly $600 million in damages from the original verdict as well.

Xbox One vs. the PlayStation 4: A battle over services, not chips

If you start counting from the Magnavox Odyssey, we've been playing console games for seven generations now. Yes, it's crazy to think of, but it's even more alarming to realize that the industry has been in an all-out "war" since generation three. For better or worse, competition became a part of the hardware cycle. The players (you know, Sega, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft) have changed several times through the years, but until recently, the game hasn't -- the console wars were fought over who had more bits, what had the most RAM and how fast a machine could render frames. Now, as we kick off generation eight, we're seeing a very different kind of contest.

Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet reaches Verizon on November 21st for $500 contract-free

Verizon isn't going to let AT&T hog all the Lumia 2520 buyers this weekend -- it just announced that it will start selling Nokia's Windows RT tablet on November 21st, one day before the device is available at AT&T. Pricing will remain the same at $500 contract-free or $400 on a two-year term, but Verizon is sweetening its deal by offering a carrier-appropriate red model to online shoppers; retail customers will have to be content with black. There's no word on 2520 variants for other carriers, but it's good to know that Americans will have at least some choice in networks when picking up Nokia's LTE-equipped slate.

Google to pay $17 million as a penalty for unauthorized web tracking in Safari

Last year, Google ponied up $22.5 million to the FTC as a penalty for bypassing cookie settings in the Safari browser to track users. While Mountain View no doubt wishes this episode were far behind it already, the company will pay a pretty sum once again as the result of a settlement today: $17 million in a suit brought by 37 states and the District of Columbia over that very same practice of tracking users in Safari.

Toshiba's new Kira Ultrabook promises 22 hours of use on a single charge

We praised Toshiba's last flagship Ultrabook for its brilliant screen and speedy boot-up time, but the company's newest Kirabook has a notable new feature -- an estimated 22 hours of battery life. Intel's new Haswell chips may have shifted our expectations of what we expect laptops can deliver battery-wise, but almost running a whole day remains an impressive feat. That's Toshiba's claim for its new Dynabook KIRA V654, which sidesteps touch compatibility on its 13-inch 1,366 x 768 resolution screen to add to the battery savings and weighs in at just 1.12kg. Alongside an additional high-resolution model (2,560 x 1,440), if you simply must have swipeable screens on your Windows 8 machine, there's also the similarly-sized Dynabook Kira V834, although that model will only manage a paltry 14 hours of work and / or play. (We kid.)

Apple has reportedly purchased PrimeSense, an Israeli-based 3D sensor technology company, for $345 million.

Apple has reportedly purchased PrimeSense, an Israeli-based 3D sensor technology company, for $345 million. Rumors of the acquisition surfaced earlier this year, but Israeli news outlet Calcalist says the deal is now done, and Apple plans to announce it within the next few weeks.
PrimeSense is best known to most folks for its work with Microsoft, who used its technology, chips, and designs inside the first Kinect sensor for the Xbox 360. But the company sells its own 3D sensors and software for use in other markets such as as TV, mobile, retail, and robotics…
Reuters passes along the Calcalist report:

Sony PlayStation 4 scores high for repairability

The PlayStation 4 is a hot piece of tech and as such it simply couldn’t avoid being torn to bits and pieces by the ifixit team. While you probably wouldn’t have guessed it given the relatively modest size, the latest Sony console is quite easy to repair at home. No adhesive was used for putting the PS4 together, which means taking it apart and putting it back together is quite easy (although it does void your warranty).
The only problem was that the metal mid-plane is very sharp – an issue the teardown guy found the hard way. If you can get past that however you will be able to replace just about every component of your console without taking it to a service center.

1 million PlayStation 4 consoles sold in 24 hours

Sony managed an amazing achievement with its latest PlayStation 4 console topping 1 million sales in the first 24 hours. With the console being available only in the US and Canada for now, the figure sounds even more impressive.

Apple iPad Air catches fire in Australian Vodafone store

A Vodafone retail store in Canberra had to be evacuated on Wednesday because an iPad Air burst into flames.

The fire allegedly started at the charging port, set the whole iPad on fire and proceeded to fill the entire store with smoke.
The fire department was called to put the fire out and later an Apple rep visited the store to collect the device for further inspection. No one was hurt during the incident.
This is not the first time we see devices bursting in flames or even exploding, but hopefully this is just an isolated incident instead of a widespread issue.

Apple Was Interested in BlackBerry's IP But Board Rejected Proposals to Break Up the Company

Both Microsoft and Apple were interested in acquiring BlackBerry's intellectual property but BlackBerry's board rejected proposals to break up the company, reports Reuters.

The board rejected proposals from several technology companies for various BlackBerry assets on grounds that a break-up did not serve the interest of all stakeholders, which include employees, customers and suppliers in addition to shareholders, said the sources, who did not want to be identified as the discussions were confidential.

BBM DP NOT CHANGING ON Z10,Q10,Q5&Z30 FIX / HOW TO UPDATE THE OS OF YOUR DEVICE

Good day viewers, I have been getting calls, text and pings from BB10 users, i.e Z10, Q10, Q5 & Z30 Complaining about not been able to change their display pictures (DP) on BBM.                  I will quickly explain what that means, a BB10 user of either Z10, Q10, Q5 or Z30, will change him/her display pictures (DP) on BBM, but the change will only be viewed for the user alone, that means the change stays only on the device, all the user’s contact will still see the previous display pictures (DP) on their BBM, this problem can last for days, weeks or even months, if not resolved.
