Samsung: Power Sharing Cable allows you to charge devices

Samsung is launching a new microUSB to microUSB power cable that lets you charge your gadgets by drawing power from your Galaxy smartphone or tablet. The cable has an arrow indication to show the power flow and officially works with the Galaxy S 5, Galaxy Tab S 10.5, Galaxy Tab S 8.4, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Avant and Galaxy Note 4.

Adobe acquires the developer of creative mobile SDKs Aviary

Adobe acquired the developers of creative mobile software development kits Aviary. Details of the transaction were not officially disclosed.Aviary is known for powering mobile editing apps across various platforms via a free SDK. Adobe’s acquisition of the small New York City-based company will allow it to bring its Creative Cloud services to interested app developers.

iPhone 6 sales reach record 10 million in first weekend

Today, Apple has proudly announced that it sold over 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units over the first weekend during which they were on sale.

This apparently represents a new record for first-weekend iPhone sales, according to the company itself. Though if you were hoping for a breakdown of sales between the two iPhone 6 models, you're out of luck, as Apple didn't provide more details.

It's probably safe to assume that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 massively outsold the bigger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus, which would be nothing out of the ordinary. As mainstream as phablets have become already, they're still generally not better sold than more pocketable smartphones.

It's interesting to note that Apple has achieved this 10 million sales milestone despite the fact that the two new iPhones aren't officially available in China yet, nor is there currently a time frame for their release in the world's biggest smartphone market.

Last Friday, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus went on sale in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, and the UK. 20 more countries and territories will be getting them this Friday, on September 26. And Apple promises to have its two new phones in stores in 115 countries by the end of the year.

Sony foresees $1.2 billion loss from its smartphone business

Sony has shared some bad news regarding its financial quarter forecast. The company is expecting its losses to quadruple due to "impairment" in its smartphone business. More specifically, in the summer of 2014, the company reviewed its stance on the mid-range smartphone segment and concluded that results weren't as bright as anticipated.

As a result, Sony expects its Mobile Communications segment to lose $1.2 billion (180 billion yen). A cringing number indeed, which has made the company reevaluate its stance on the smartphone division. No longer will Sony seek significant sales growth, but instead focus on reducing risk, volatility and return more stable profits.

SanDisk unveils microSD card that goes up to 95MB/s

SanDisk is putting out the most exciting products as far as memory cards can be exciting – first the

512GB SD card and now the UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) microSD cards. U3 rating means that the cards can reach write speeds of up to 90MB/s and read speeds of 95MB/s.

The SanDisk Extreme PRO cards are aimed at high-quality 2160p video recording that can quickly grow up in bitrate.

Nokia’s UK website gets moved to Microsoft.com

It’s started. The oft-rumored move by Microsoft to get rid of the Nokia brand for mobile devices seems to have begun today. If you go to Nokia.com’s website for the UK, you’re met with the following message: “Nokia devices and services have moved to a new website”.

Unsurprisingly, that new home is under the Microsoft.com domain. This seems to have only happened for the UK regional site, but undoubtedly more will follow.

Samsung 20nm 6Gb mobile DRAM enters mass production

Samsung announced earlier today it has began mass producing its latest 6Gb LPDDR3 mobile DRAM chips. They’re made using the 20nm manufacturing process and are designed with high performance smartphones and tablets in mind by achieving data transfer rates of up to 2,133Mbps.

A young woman was in tears after police kicked her out of the queue to Apple's flagship Sydney store before she was able to buy the new iPhone 6.

Anna, a 24-year-old international student from China, was ordered by police about 10am to leave the George Street area for six hours or risk being arrested, after they asked her multiple times to stay put in the queue

BlackBerry Porsche Design P'9983 gets official (customise q10)

After leaking back in August, the new BlackBerry Porsche Design P'9983 has been officially announced today. It's the successor to the P'9982 from last year, which itself succeeded the original P'9981 from 2011.

The new smartphone comes with a 3.1-inch 720x720 touchscreen, an 8 MP rear camera, and a 2 MP front-facing camera. It's got 2GB of RAM and 64GB of storage that can be expanded via a microSD card slot. 4G LTE support is in, as are dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11n), an FM radio, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC.
