Airtel has shown commitment to empower Nigerians with the latest mobile internet solutions and enterprise business solutions. Airtel Nigeria recently entered into a strategic partnership with the Computer Warehouse Group in order to deploy the country’s first research and education network.
The Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN) is one of the first research and education networks located in West and Central Africa. The network employs Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in order to drive inter-institutional communication, collaboration, and shared access to knowledge across national and international borders.
According to ngrguardiannews.com, the programme, which will be commissioned by the Vice President, Namadi Sambo, on Tuesday, July 8th, 2014 at the National Universities Commission, Maitama, Abuja, is an outcome of the National Universities Commission’s partnership with the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities to establish a foundation that will redefine research and learning in tertiary institutions across the country.
The project has also seen support from the World Bank in order to create an infrastructural backbone to interconnect a vast range of research and education institutions in the country. This will ultimately link them with education networks worldwide.
In an interview with ngrguardiannews.com, Segun Ogunsanya, NgREN MD/CEO of Airtel Nigeria, expressed delight at the initiative, saying the programme underscored the company’s objective of repositioning as Nigeria’s number one enterprise business and mobile Internet service provider and in line with its core corporate philosophy of enriching lives.
Ogunsanya also stated that; “Airtel is passionate about the development of the education sector in tandem with the company’s major Corporate Social Responsibility agenda.”
