Apple and Qualcomm facing production issues with their smartwatches
The next 12 months are said to be the year of the wearable devices as the industry embraces the newest trend. However, two of the industry giants in the faces of Qualcomm and Apple are reportedly facing production issues with their respective wearable products.
According to a report from DigiTimes, Qualcomm’s Toq and Apple’s alleged iWatch yields are less than 50% of what initially anticipated due to difficulties with applying surface treatments on the metal chassis.
The metal injection molded process, which is popularly known MIM is the industry standard procedure used in the mass production of high-precision products so as to take the special shapes and maintain the required rigidness.
Apart from Apple and Qualcomm, other global manufacturers such as Casio, Nike, Adidas, LG and Epson are all working hard to bring wearable devices to the market by the end of the year, while Samsung and Sony will probably come up with successors of theirs.
