Bravo!!: Sony sold 4.2 million PlayStation 4 units in 2013
It was not long ago when Sony last updated us on the sales numbers of its PlayStation 4 gaming console. However now that Microsoft announced that it has sold more than 3 million Xbox One units in 2013, the Japanese were eager to show that they have topped that number.
Today, Andrew House, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, took the stage for a brief moment during Kaz Hirai‘s CES 2014 keynote to announce that the company had managed to sell more than 4.2 million PS4 gaming consoles.
Sony’s PlayStation 4 sales stood at 2.1 million on December 1 and about 30 days, there were as many more PS4 consoles at the users end. The Japanese manufacturer will certainly be looking to build on its sales momentum to take the upper hand in its rivalry against the Xbox One.
In addition from breaking the news of its latest sales numbers, Sony also unveiled its new PlayStation Now streaming and cloud TV service. Sony’s PS Now assistance will now give you instant access to games from previous models like PS2 and PS3. According to House, even the non-console owners will be able to access the service when it rolls out this summer. Meanwhile, the beta testing of service will begin in US by the end of this month.
With the cloud based TV service, you can access TV content through the PlayStation console. The new service will give you the flexibility of watching your favorite TV shows and movies on iPads and smartphones whenever you want. Sony will be testing out the service thoroughly in the US before rolling it commercially.
